Study Milestones

  • The first study patient was enrolled on September 17, 1997.
  • As of July 2001, there were 2,521 patients participating in the study.
  • The 2.5-year follow-up period was completed in October 2003.
  • The initial results of the study were made public at the American College of Cardiology meeting in New Orleans, Louisiana on March 8, 2004.
  • Preliminary results of the Cost Effectiveness of ICD Therapy in SCD-HeFT were presented by Dr. Daniel B. Mark at the American Heart Association meeting in New Orleans, Louisiana on November 10, 2004.
  • The first published summary of study results appeared in the New England Journal of Medicine.
  • Additional articles regarding specific aspects of the study (for example, cause-specific survival, sub-segment outcomes, HF morbidity and mortality, quality of life, and cost effectiveness, etc.) are expected to follow.
